DIY Nikkah Partition vs Nikkah Partition Rental
DIY Nikkah Partition vs Nikkah Partition Rental
Are you curious if you should make your partition or rent it out? I have experience in DIY Nikkah Partitions, and now we rent them out to all Muslims in DMV to make the Nikkah process easier for Muslims. In June 2024, I did my Nikkah at Diyanet Center of America (Lanham, MD), Alhamdulillah, and let me tell you our experience firsthand if you are thinking about making your DIY Partition.

DIY Nikkah Partition Pros and Cons:

Pros:

The BIGGEST and best thing about DIY Nikkah Partition is that you customize it however you want it to be. From the partition stand to the kind of flowers you want to use, how big or small you want it to be, and everything in between. It is truly yours, a one-of-a-kind partition.

Cons:

Now with the Cons! This list is longer, and I will share my experience firsthand.

Time-Consuming: It took us about 2 months to complete our DIY Nikkah Partition! It takes about 10+ hours to plan what design you and your spouse want to make, possibly longer, because your mind will be occupied with 20 other things related to your Nikkah. Once you have decided what kind of partition theme you want, it is then time to order everything. We ordered items from Temu, Amazon, and got some items from local retail stores. Initially, I just ordered the partition stand from Amazon, which was good and sturdy, while we were planning for what kind of flowers to use. The flowers from Temu took about 2 weeks to arrive, and we had to order more flowers than we thought we would need. When we ordered more artificial Wisteria flowers, the color did NOT match, despite ordering the same item that we purchased 3 weeks ago. It was time to order additional flowers from Amazon because we did not have time to wait another 2 weeks for Temu. These Wisteria were a closer match, but not 100% match. Putting the partition together took about 10+ hours of hard work with the help of my amazing mother Alhamdulillah.

Stressful: It is mad-stressful, especially if you do not have enough time to plan everything. Time goes by super fast these days, especially when you are busy with a full-time job and you only have time to do it over the weekends and after work. It also gets messy during the building stage, so you have to clean up constantly.

Cost: We paid about $500 for our Partition. There are hidden costs that will add up before you know it. Things will break, and you may need to order additional items you didn't account for during the planning. We sourced items that were high quality and affordable, it may cost you more or less, depending on the flower selection and stand you decide to use. The quantity of flowers is going to be the biggest cost.

Sturdy: While we didn't experience issues with our Partition, we have heard stories about partitions falling in the middle of the nikkah and people had to fix the partition during the nikkah ceremony. DIY requires designing, almost need an engineering degree and previous experience with crafting, sewing, etc. My mother was super helpful in this department.

Partition Requirements: Masjids are selective about what kind of partition you can use in their masjid. Make sure to confirm before you decide to go down the DIY path. Also, make sure that it will fit at the Venue, if it is too big, it may not fit or look out of place. If it is too small, the groom has to duck down when he is crossing the partition.

Transportation and Setting it up for Your Nikkah: Transferring the partition to the masjid, venue, or park will require a van/truck in most cases. If you do not have a bigger car, get a friend to give you a ride, otherwise, you will need to rent a van/truck. We got lucky in this department, we had a van for transportation. Setting up the partition during nikkah is stressful, our family was running around trying to set up the partition and it got hot and sweaty! It is the last thing you want to do on your Nikkah. We had to sign paperwork, which required that I go to another building, and run around to grab things, and the last thing anyone wants to do is stress about setting up and taking down the partition.

Renting a Nikkah Partition Pros and Cons:

Cons:

I'm going to start with cons first! There is ONE con!

Limited Customization: You can look around and see what kind of options exist online near you. If you find a partition that you like, you are set. If you are picky, you may not find a 100% match online for the price range you are looking for.

Pros:

The cons listed under DIY solution are pros for the rental option. Save time, money, and hassle associated with building a partition.

Cost: We offer Nikkah Partition Rental for $350, including free 1-hour delivery to most locations within DC, Maryland, VA, and nearby states like PA and DE. There are no surprises when it comes to cost, and we offer flexible pricing to help people who are on a tighter budget. Our end goal is to make nikkah easier for Muslims.

Limited Customization & Fully Customized: This was listed under cons, but it is also a pro! If you want minimal changes, we do offer those, maybe you would like different kinds of flowers or a change of curtains. Pricing is dependent on the changes you would like! We also offer 100% custom Nikkah Partitions, designed just for you, contact us to learn more.

Time-saving: Time is precious, spend it with your loved ones and focus on what matters. Building the Nikkah partition takes about 40+ hours for planning, designing, building, transporting, setting it up and taking it down, which can be used in a more productive way.

Sustainable: Most people end up throwing away the DIY partition afterward because they have no other use for it and it takes a lot of space. This harms our planet.

Stress-Free: When you rent a partition, we deliver it to your location, set it up, and you get to enjoy your day stress-free. That time saved can be spent with your loved ones and allows you to take more precious pictures and videos with your spouse and your family during the ceremony.

Sturdy and Designed by Professionals: Rental partitions are designed and built by experts who understand the importance of style and stability. Imagine this: your partition stands tall and elegant, securely in place throughout your event—no wobbling, no last-minute fixes. That’s the peace of mind you get with a rental.

Compliant with Masjid Requirements: We work with leading masjids like Diyanet Center of America, to ensure our partition is 100% compliant with their standards.

Conclusion: Your Day, Your Way

If you are up for a challenge and are willing to put in hard work, time, and want to build your custom partition, go with the DIY option. People think it will be cheaper with a DIY solution, but it ends up costing more with all of the hidden costs. From my experience, renting out a Nikkah Partition is cheaper, easier, and a sustainable option for most Muslims. Plus, you will not look sweaty for your photoshoot, because we will take care of setup. Learn more about Nikkah Partition Rental and what we offer at an incredible price.
